 THE GHOST WRITER (2010) Directed by Roman Polanski @ 128 minutes.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Olivia Williams, Timothy Hutton, Tom Wilkinson, Eli Wallach, and James Belushi. Synopsis: A ghostwriter hired to complete the unfinished memoirs of a former British prime minister uncovers secrets and political intrigue that soon put his own life in jeopardy. A Hitchcockian tale told by a master filmmaker. Roger Ebert wrote, “The film is handsome, smooth, and persuasive. Polanski, at 76, provides a reminder of directors of the past who were raised on craft, not gimmicks, and depended on deliberate rhythm of editing, rather than mindless quick editing.”

The film stars Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, Diane Ladd, John Hillerman, and Burt Young. This movie is a member-pick from Barbara Madsen. Synopsis: Private detective Jake Gittes finds himself overwhelmed in a scandalous adultery case involving the rich and powerful of 1937 Los Angeles. A gripping, atmospheric mystery that excels in virtually every aspect—with a strong narrative drive, tremendous cinematography and art design, and outstanding performances by the entire cast. Tagline: “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.” Film was nominated for 11 Oscars, and won one for writer Robert Towne. It was the winner of 4 Golden Globes: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, & Best Writer.

THE MATADOR (2006) Written & Directed by Richard Shepard @ 96 minutes.

The film stars Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Hope Davis, Philip Baker Hall.Tagline: “A hitman and a salesman walk into a bar…..” Synopsis:  A chance encounter in Mexico City between a down-on-his-luck salesman and a burned-out hitman [who facilitates fatalities] turns into a strangely profound relationship which provokes each to act in ways neither would have imagined possible. “Fate steps in to form a friendship between two men from irreconcilable worlds that will alter their lives forever.”
