Producer’s Film Picks for August 2010

All three movies are on DVD. There is no theatrical pick this month.


Director Peter Jackson. The film runs @ 130 minutes.Starring Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and Michael Imperioli. Synopsis: When a 14-year old girl is murdered, she left her life unfinished. Finding herself in some beautiful in-between dimension, she knows that she somehow has to help her father catch her killer–before she can finally move on–filled with suspense, hope, and the redeeming quality of love. Tagline: The story of a life, and everything that came after. Stanley Tucci was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.


Director Alan Rudolph.  The film runs @ 103 minutes.Starring Timothy Hutton, Kelly McGillis, Maureen Stapleton, Ann Wedgeworth, James Gammon, Mare Winningham, Don Murray, Tim Daly, Amanda Plummer, with cameos by Tom Petty, Ellen Barkin, and Deborah Winger. Synopsis:  A young man dies while performing a heroic act. He finds Heaven interesting beyond his wildest imagination. He meets a “new soul”, falls in love, and they marry–but she longs for a “life” as human on Earth. When they separate, he is devastated, andhe makes a deal–returning to Earth he is given 30 years to find her; and if he fails, they will be without each other for eternity. Taglines: “12,000 babies will be born in America today., Two of them have already fallen in love,” and “How in Heaven did they meet? How on Earth will they find each other?”

MOON (2009)

Director Duncan Jones. The film runs @ 97 minutes. Starring Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey. Synopsis: Sam Bell is a working astronaut completing his 3-year contract as the sole employee on an automated lunar station. His only companion is a nearly sentient computer named Gerty. When he has an accident, however, he awakens to discover he is not alone. Taglines: “The last place you’d ever expect to find yourself.” and “250,000 miles from home, the hardest thing to face….is yourself.”

All three films will be screened by the Tacoma Film Club at 924 Broadway, at the TFC meeting hall in the Pythian Temple, inTacoma’s theater district.

THE LOVELY BONES will screen Friday, August 6, 2010.

MADE IN HEAVEN will screen Saturday, August 7, 2010.

MOON will screen Friday, August 13, 2010.

The films will be shown at 7:00 pm.

Come early for fellowship and a meal.
