Fellow Film  Club Members and Movie Buffs:

The TFC theatrical pick for October is THE MASTER (2012). It opened at Tacoma’s Grand Cinema today, Friday, September 21, 2012. The buzz is that this critically acclaimed film will run into October, but per usual, the TFC recommends that you get yourself to the Grand and see this movie as soon as it is convenient.

FYI: I was chosen to lead the discussion for this film at the Grand Cinema, tomorrow, September 22, 2012, following the 2:50 p.m. feature time. I would love to see some of you there for the support and fellowship.

A striking portrait of drifters and seekers in post World War II America, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master unfolds the journey of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future – until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

I believe in the church of Paul Thomas Anderson. Fierce and ferociously funny, The Master is a great movie, the best of the year so far, and a new American classic. — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

This is a movie that defies understanding even as it compels reverent, astonished belief. — A.O. Scott, New York Times

It’s a sharply written, unforgettably directed character study with brilliant performances by Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams … — Lou Lumenick, New York Post
