TFC Producers’ Film Picks for May 2013
The cinematic theme for this month will be “unconventional fatherhood”.
RAISING ARIZONA (1987)
Directed by Joel Coen, written by the Coen Brothers @ 94 minutes
The film stars Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, William Forsythe,
Trey Wilson, Frances McDormand, and Randall “Tex” Cobb.
Synopsis: When a childless couple of an ex-con and an ex-cop discover they cannot conceive their own family, they become desperate enough to kidnap one of a local furniture tycoon’s quintuplets. While trying to conceal their crime, and enjoy their new “family”, their lives become hilariously complicated.
Tagline: A Comedy beyond belief.
THE GREAT SANTINI (1979)
Directed by Lewis John Carlino @ 115 minutes.
The film stars Robert Duvall, Blythe Danner, Michael O’Keefe, Lisa Jane Persky,
Stan Shaw, and David Keith.
Synopsis: “Bull” Meechum, an aggressive competitive marine fighter pilot, runs roughshod over his family, expecting military-like obedience from them. As his oldest son approaches manhood, he struggles to get the elusive approval of his very demanding father.
This film opens at the Grand Cinema on Friday, April 26, 2013.

This French Canadian film stars Patrick Huard, Julie LeBreton, and Antoine Betrand.
Synopsis: As his lover announce her pregnancy, a forty-something slacker receives other life-changing news: 142 people, all the result of artificial insemination, have filed a class action suit against him, their biological father.
This film was a Tacoma Film Festival Audience Favorite, and it won the Audience Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

STARBUCK opens at the Grand Cinema on Friday, April 26, 2013, and we hope since this is such a Tacoma favorite, that it will run more than one week; yet it is always prudent to attend the theatrical film early on to insure being able to see it.

These three terrific films about fatherhood will be discussed at the Center for Spiritual Living on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
The Center for Spiritual Living (CSL) is located at 206 North J. Street, on the corner of J Street and Division, across from the Group Health hospital.
The Grand Cinema is located at 606 South Fawcett Avenue, street level in the historic Merlino building at the corner of 6th and Fawcett.
