Producers’ Film Picks for September 2013
The theme for this month is a “Woody Allen trilogy–three ensemble dramedies
about the foibles of love & the machinations of fate.”

The film stars Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale,
Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard.
Synopsis:  After a mid-life crisis & the failure of her marriage, an elegant
delusional New York socialite moves into her sister’s modest San Francisco
apartment, and tries to regain her emotional balance.
Written & Directed by Woody Allen @ 103 minutes.
The film stars Woody Allen, Michael Caine, Mia Farrow, Carrie Fisher,
Barbara Hershey, Lloyd Nolan, Maureen O’Sullivan, Dianne Wiest,
Max Von Sydow, & Daniel Stern.
Synopsis: Between two Thanksgiving parties, we spend some time with
three sisters and their dysfunctional families, as all of them fall in and out
of love with each other, and are burdened with the shallow intense lusts
and psychological wounding that such activities create.
This film won three Oscars, two Baftas, and a Golden Globe.

The film stars Martin Landau, Claire Bloom, Anjelica Huston, Woody Allen,
Alan Alda, Sam Waterston, Mia Farrow, Jerry Orbach, & Nora Ephron.
Synopsis: A successful ophthalmologist, after an affair of several year’s duration,
is mandated to dissolve his marriage, or his “other woman” will ruin his life. He is
so stressed by this dilemma that he considers murdering his mistress.
Meanwhile on another plot thread, a married unhappy documentary
filmmaker becomes infatuated with another woman.
This film was nominated for (3) Oscars, (5) Baftas, & a Golden Globe.
BLUE JASMINE will open at the Grand Cinema on Friday, August 23,
HANNAH AND HER SISTERS will screen, in conjunction with the
Tacoma Film Club Summer Party, on Saturday, September 7, 2013,
at the Center for Spiritual Living.
CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS will screen at CSL on Friday,
September 13, 2013.
The Grand Cinema is located at 606 South Fawcett Avenue,
in the historic Merlino building, on the corner of 6th & Fawcett.
The Center for Spiritual Living is located at 206 North J Street,
on the corner of Division & J streets, across from the Group
Health Hospital.
