Fellow Film Club Members & Movie Buffs:

Now is the time! The Grand Cinema intends to run this fantastic film through next week, over the next weekend, completing its run on Thursday, March 13, 2014 ( unless many of us turn out in record numbers, and they decide to extend it even further).

This film is the theatrical feature picked for March by the Tacoma Film Club. The fact that it just won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film last night should help it to turn a profit presently.

I have a friend in Seattle, my former Acting teacher, a director & film buff. He is raving about the virtues of this movie, and already lamenting that it has a “limited run” in Seattle.

Jep Gambardella has seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades, but after his 65th birthday and a shock from the past, Jep looks past the nightclubs and parties to find a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.

“Dazzlingly ambitious, beautifully filmed, and thoroughly enthralling, The Great Beauty offers virtuoso filmmaking from writer/director Paolo Sorrentino.” –

“Rome in all its splendor and superficiality, artifice and significance, becomes an enormous banquet too rich to digest in one sitting in Paolo Sorrentino’s densely packed, often astonishing The Great Beauty.” – Jay Weissberg, Variety

This film has won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, & a BAFTA award. We, at the Club try to cajole you folks to make time to see these theatrical features, but this time it is double imperative.
Director Paolo Sorrentino thanked Fellini as he accepted his Academy Award, and I would rate this film at a full 5 stars.
When you see it, try to find answers to questions that will arise during the discussion of Wednesday, 3/19/14.
What did Ramona succumb to?
What is the Sea Monster, a direct tribute to Fellini & LA DOLCE VITA.
