Fellow Film Club Members & Movie Buffs:

The TFC theme for this month is: Shadows of the Disappeared.

Yes, it was over 70 degrees several days this week, as wicked March goes out like a lamb. The Tacoma Film Club is excited about screening the award-winning documentary: NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT (2010).

It was written & Directed by Patricio Guzman, who resides in France, and teaches documentary film classes in Europe & Latin America. This film comes to us from Chile.

Guzman is the founder & director of the International Documentary Festival of Santiago.

He has directed 25 films, all of them documentaries, including THE BATTLE OF CHILE, PARTS I, II, & III (1975-79), THE SOUTHERN CROSS (1991), THE PINOCHET CASE (2001), SALVADOR ALLENDE (2004), & THE PEARL BUTTON (2015).

The cinematography was done by Katell Djian, who has lensed 36 documentaries since 1996, a number of them for Guzman, including: FOR EVER MOZART (1996). MICHELINE (2001), THE GREAT JOURNEY (2004), NENETTE (2010), & THE PEARL BUTTON (2015).

Synopsis: This is a Chilean documentary film that is set on the Atacoma Desert, 10,000 feet above sea level, as astronomers search the cosmos for the meaning & origins of life, while at the same time there are folks sifting through the sand searching for the dumped bodies of loved ones, victims of the Pinochet regime.

Rotten Tomatoes rated it at 100% for Critic’s Approval, & 83% for Audience Approval. IMDb rated it at 7.6 stars.

So mark your calendars for this Friday, coming up rapidly, & join the TFC for a wonderful screening of NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT. It will be screened at the Center for Spiritual Living, the church building we rent for our Club events. It is located at 206 North J Street in Tacoma.

Come early, around 6:30 pm, and join many of us downstairs in the kitchen area for fun, fellowship, & snacks. It is permitted to bring snacks & beverages, even wine & beer, to share with others. Clean up after yourselves. There is no food or drinks allowed in the sanctuary during the movie. There is a donation box near the entrance to the sanctuary. All funds collected will help to cover the rent for the space, & other Club expenses.

Diane Jensen, the TFC Director, will be on hand with nice membership cards; this year it is the Elizabeth Taylor edition. Membership is still a low $ 20.00 for the year.

NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT will screen at 7:20 pm & in runs 90 minutes, so the curtain will be down before 9:15 pm.
